Extra Post: Topic Adjustment [Nov. 29th, 2006|09:59 pm]
Hello all, this is my final blog, so I hope you all enjoy reading it! I have adjusted my topic from Madison County to simply Lapel (a small town within the county) and will focus either 1 or 2 seasons. With that I will also be doing a local history and trying to see how the basketball success impacted the town. With the success they had, it will lead me to other areas of history of the town. The Madison County topic was broad and probably could have been a book, that only people like me would read. So Dr. Lowe suggested that I do this, so I will continue researching and we'll see what happens. Goodluck to you all on your projects!

U of I Field Trip [Nov. 13th, 2006|10:06 am]
Besides being sick, I really enjoyed the vist to the University of Illinois, and had my subject been a little different it would have been very beneficial. I think two things that could have been changed were the undergrad library tour and I wish we would have had more time for individual research. I also think it could have been more beneficial earlier in the semester! That being said, I really enjoyed the field trip and thought it was beneficial and helpful! Unfortunately for me they didn't have much for me, but I was able to find a couple articles as secondary sources!

Ideal Primary Source [Oct. 29th, 2006|03:47 pm]
My ideal primary source is going to be newspapers! Which is why I am having so much trouble here in Illinois! Newspapers will be a huge part of my research and will allow me to go back in time with my research which will be very beneficial for my topic!

Revised Topic [Oct. 29th, 2006|03:45 pm]
Hello all,
Like i've been saying recently my research is very slim right now, so I haven't really revised my topic. It's still the impact of Madison County basketball. I have, however, decided not to do all the schools in the county just a few of the major ones! I decided this so I can get more in depth on each of the schools I want to research and discuss.

Evaluation Criteria [Oct. 24th, 2006|12:18 am]
Hello all,
I'm still in the heavy research area of my research. As you have seen from past postings I still have a lot of research to come, however, when I'm researching I'm really looking at the author information and seeing how credible he is, what type of material it is, and where this particular piece of research can be used best. So like I've said earlier i'm struggling getting good material right now, but this is something I'm going to have to be careful of once I get more in depth in my research. Goodluck on the test tommorow!

Hall of Fame Museum [Oct. 20th, 2006|10:53 am]
Hello all! I'm very excited, here in about a month or so over Thanksgiving Break, I'm going to be heading about 30 miles from my house to the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame. I know some of you might be thinking it's a little wierd that the state of Indiana has a high school basketball museum and hall of fame, but that's how we Hoosiers roll. Anyway, they have a library within the museum/hall of fame with information about all the high school basketball programs in the state of Indiana! This is going to be a huge part of my research process. I'm hopefully going to bring along my Dad to help me sift through all the information, so i'm very excited about this trip and heading home in general! See ya'll later!

Organizational System [Oct. 15th, 2006|12:27 pm]
Hello all,
My research needs to pick up some, I wish I had time to go home since my research would be much easier back home where sources are plentiful, but nonetheless i'm pressing on. My organizational process is decent maybe could be a little more beneficial, but I have a notebook which I am writing down the name and all the information I need to know to site the information I may use from that particular source. The majority of my information is going to come from newspapers and interviews but it is difficult for me to access that information right now since I am unable to get home due to football. So hopefully I will have a lot more information and sources to keep track of here in a few weeks. So far I am pretty organized with the information I have.

See ya'll in class(es)

(no subject) [Sep. 28th, 2006|11:30 am]
My topic I have decided to do is a history on Madison County (the county which I reside) basketball, and its impact on Indiana High School basketball. High School basketball in Indiana and in this county in specific is huge, not quite as big as the movie Hoosiers, but close. Anderson (the main town in the county) has the second largest gymnasium behind a town the next county over. So, this county is rich in basketball history, so I'm looking forward to researching more about this subject. I will probably have to focus on a certain time period, but i'll decide that down the road.

Kankakee Museum [Sep. 17th, 2006|07:24 pm]
I really enjoyed our time at the Kankakee Museum. The gentlemen was very interesting and helpful. In particular with what he said about artifacts being sources. With my topic, this can be very beneficial. The overall experience at the museum was a very good one for me. It helped solitify my decision and made me feel very comfortable in my topic. I look forward to future visits to the museum, as well as using the techniques the gentlemen taught us at that evening.

Introduction [Sep. 5th, 2006|07:27 pm]
Hello, my name is Mitch and i'm a Junior here at Olivet. I am originally from a small town in Indiana, called Lapel. Here at Olivet I am a Social Science education major and i'm also a member of the ONU football team. I have a beautiful girlfriend named Brittany, and a great and supportive family. Upon graduation at Olivet, I plan on going into the teaching field, where I hope to teach at the high school level, and possibly coach. I also plan on getting married shortly after school and begin to start a family.
My previous research experiences, has been somewhat limited and small. Nothing compared to what this class along with Historiography is leading towards. However, I would say that for me, it's hard not to focus on the end result, but I also understand the importance of the process. I'm looking forward to narrowing a topic and finding good research.
